Tara Chittenden
Tara Chittenden is a printmaker whose work explores the sensory and temporal qualities of landscape, light, and material process. Working primarily in woodblock and monoprint, she creates atmospheric prints that evoke the movement of time across space, from shifting weather and expansive skies to the subtle transitions of shadow and tone. The works submitted to Imprint this year are black-and-white monoprints inspired by Dartmoor’s rugged landscape. Focusing on weather, light, rock formations and open moorland, these prints explore the dynamic relationship between geological permanence and the fleeting conditions that animate it. Strong contrasts of light and dark capture moments of passing cloud, snow, rain and sunlight, revealing the landscape as something continually changing and alive. Rooted in close observation and sustained attention, Tara’s practice investigates how printmaking can register memory and place. The monoprint process allows each image to emerge through a balance of intention and unpredictability, echoing the shifting qualities of the natural world. Tara has exhibited at shows including the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2022, 2025) and Woolwich Director’s Cut (2024), the Festival of Print (2024, 2025), and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2020, 2021, 2022, 2025).
