Sumi Perera is an interdisciplinary artist, academic, curator & adjudicator who makes interactive artistbook print installations. She has lead a nomadic life since the age of 3 born in Sri Lanka & living & working in UK shifting between many cultural and professional pathways as a housewife/doctor/scientist and artist.
She gained a MA Camberwell, UAL 2004 & has taught at Middlesex University, Royal Academy & the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing.
She is a fellow of Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Society of Designer Craftsmen, The London Group, The Society of Graphic Fine-art etc.
Awards/prizes: Prix de Print, Art in Print USA 2015, Gold Medal-Seoul 1st International Artistbook Competition 2005; 1st Prize-SHELTER, USA 2007; Flourish Award 2015-excellence in printmaking (solo show at Huddersfield Art Gallery); UK Printmaking Award-Ironbridge Fine Printmaking Competition 2025; Best Print Award SGFA Open 2025. She was shortlisted finalist: Dentons Art Prize 2022-2023; Art Gemini Prize 2017; John Ruskin Prize 2017.
Collections: Tate Britain, Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum, Royal Collection, Ashmolean, Yale Centre of British Art, USA; Museums in China/Japan/Italy/Australia/Iraq/Denmark/Egypt/Serbia.
