Sara Lee has long been drawn to the changing qualities of light, air and weather. Her quiet images invoke a sense of calm. They invite the viewer to pause and contemplate the importance of landscape and our profound relationship with it, especially at this time of ominous environmental change.
Her practice involves walking in and working from the land, followed by extended studio-based work. She predominantly works with drawing and print.
These images are hand-printed using gouache and are made using techniques borrowed from the Japanese woodblock tradition.
Sara Lee studied Fine Art at Ravensbourne and Print at Central School of Art. She lives and works in London.
She has exhibited widely, including internationally in Japan, USA and Iceland and has had work included in public exhibitions at The Royal Academy of Art, Pallant House Gallery and Towner Gallery. Her most recent solo show – Chalk Lines - Drawings from the South Downs was held at Petersfield Museum and in London with Rabley Gallery.
Her work is held in public and private collections internationally, including Pallant House Gallery, the Victoria Art Gallery, Tama Collection, Japan and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
