Qiyao Lyu

Qiyao is a Chinese artist based in the UK, working primarily with etching, paper, collage, and expanded printmaking practices. Her work explores the relationship between memory, the body, and space, drawing on personal experiences of embodied memory and sensory perception. Through printmaking, she investigates how memory is not only remembered but physically experienced, and how spaces can retain emotional and psychological traces. Combining traditional etching with delicate Xuan paper and collage, she extends printmaking beyond the printed image, exploring its material, tactile, and spatial possibilities. The fragility and material qualities of paper play a central role in her work, reflecting themes of vulnerability, absence, and transformation.
