Polly Livingstons' work explores the relationship between her interior and exterior worlds, and she is drawn to the way that memory and association impact her experience of space, turning familiar places and things into odd, disconnected fragments of form that destabilise a sense of the known.
Polly studies painting at the Essential School of Painting and enjoys bringing some of the preoccupations she experiences with paint into her print making. The building up of layers is an important part of her practice, as is an interest in the tension and unstable correlation between surface and depth. She also likes an element of surprise, to allow the material to do something unexpected. This series of prints emerged from experimenting with combining multiple plates, letting the form, tone and colour in each plate react to one another, a reflection on the way that memory and imagination work together to alter our perception of the actual.
Polly's work has been exhibited in the Art Pavilion, Mile End, the Department Store, Brixton, Brunswick Square, Bloomsbury, Holborn Library, and the City Literary Institute Gallery.
