**Oona Hyland**
Oona Hyland is an Irish visual artist working across printmaking, drawing, sculpture, textiles, film, and installation. She holds an Higher dip in Print from the Slade, MA in Art Research and Collaboration from IADT and an MPhil in Irish Art History from Trinity College Dublin. Elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, London (2021), she has represented Ireland internationally, including in South Korea, the São Paulo Biennial (collateral event), and the Venice Biennale (collateral event). Recent awards include an Agility Award for Mokuhanga training at MI-LAB, Japan (2022), and the Ushaw Residency and Acquisition Prize through the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2025). In 2026 she presents solo exhibitions at Custom House Studios, County Mayo, and Impress Gallery, Brisbane.
Hyland's practice investigates the materiality of print as a conceptual language for exploring memory, trauma, boundaries, resistance, erosion, and decay. Using printmaking as both process and metaphor, she examines how physical materials carry meaning and shape our understanding of lived experience. Expanding into sculpture, textiles, film, and drawing, her work reflects on the relationship between self and other, proposing that the slow, layered knowledge embedded in printmaking offers a way to engage with loss, empathy, and transformation.
