Marie-Louise Martin is a printmaker based mainly between Dublin and Italy. Her inspiration is driven by the examination of the everyday and overlooked and unseen - for her to see and show the beauty in it. She has been working in intaglio techniques since first entering the Print Room in NCAD in the 1980s. Up until early 2020s she was using etchants (primarily on steel), and decided - with grant aid - to drop the toxic aspect of her studio. These days she uses drypoint almost exclusively. She likes the immediacy of the line. Her recent series of 'Hidden in plain sight' prints all start with large-format drawings that she makes when in Italy - in and around a small hill town in central Tuscany; Radicondoli. Once made, these images are transfered to similarly large acetate sheets that can take up to a week to work up (and over an hour to ink and wipe prior to each proof!). This she does in her home studio. The series has over 30 member now, and included in this submission the very latest; XXXI.
