Maisy Aykroyd is a Cambridge based botanical artist whose work sensitively interweaves complex, universally enduring themes of heritage, commemoration, love, and loss. At the heart of her practice, Aykroyd is inspired by the ancient Japanese practice and philosophical principles of Ikebana. She explores her passion for flower arranging amongst wider botanical subjects using photography and printmaking to create highly detailed, intricate imagery. Aykroyd uses her practice as a cathartic means of honouring, celebrating, and connecting with her loved ones, reciprocally highlighting the healing and restorative properties of nature in times of great loss. She hopes to provide a quiet space for transient reflection, healing and growth – where grief and vulnerability can be expressed and transcend through its very roots.
