Lin Chau

Lin Chau is a multidisciplinary artist based in Scotland. Born in Hong Kong, she spent her formative years there before moving to the UK in the 1970s.
The natural world is both the subject and inspiration for her work. Changing skies, the rhythm of the sea, and the play of light across land and water create a strong sense of movement and atmosphere. Balancing observation with abstraction, she revisits and refines images until they reach a resolution that remains open to interpretation.
Drawing from life is central to her practice, serving as both a starting point and ongoing reference. In recent years, printmaking, particularly monoprint and chine collé has become increasingly prominent. Images are first developed on fine Xuan paper and then mounted onto a sturdier support, combining delicacy and strength. This tension informs her approach to surface, layering, and the balance between control and chance.
Lin Chau studied Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art, where she completed both a BA (Hons) and a Master's degree. Her work has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, and is held in collections including the Pinacoteca Collection of Monte San Martino and Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
