Leigh Clarke is an artist printmaker who explores the intersection of politics, material culture, and public engagement. Operating from his studio in Margate, Clarke's practice interrogates how mass-manufactured objects and widely disseminated text shape societal narratives. By repurposing consumer ephemera, he subverts commercial imagery to deliver sharp, singular social and political statements.
Deeply rooted in material experimentation, Clarke forces a physical relationship between the viewer and the printed form, actively resisting the ephemeral nature of today's digital media scrolling. Whether casting the internal cavities of political masks or printing car sponges, his art serves as a tangible archive of cultural friction, urging the public to stop, stare, and reconsider the everyday systems that surround them.
Clarke’s work has been exhibited at The Whitechapel, Turner Contemporary, The Walker Gallery, The Royal Academy and Centre de la Gravure et de l'Image imprimée. His work is included in the Royal Academy Collection and the Government Art Collection. He is a Print Tutor at the Royal Academy Schools.
