Josephine Birch
£0.00
Josephine Birch is an artist currently focusing on self portraits often including her son, portraying the privilege and the sacrifice of motherhood. Imagery holds both the beauty of the trust of a sleeping infant with the pain of just holding, standing and broken sleep. The focus shifts between fragments of remembered moments and sketches. The interior, ordinary day, personal details singled out and collaged together. Her monotypes allow for immediacy and imaginative assemblages of ideas which in turn inspire Etchings and Lithographs. Josephine graduated with a first class B.A. in Illustration and postgraduate scholarship from The Royal Drawing School, and later achieved a first class M.A. at CSA. Over the years her prints have consistently been selected for major shows and awards including Woolwich Print Fair, RWA, RA, Fenditton Gallery Contemporary Print Prize (Winner Peoples Choice Award) and Ironbridge Contemporary Print Prize and selected for residencies including Hafod Estate, Dumfries House and Moritz-Heyman Residency, Italy.
Her children’s books have garnered multiple awards from Society of Illustrators NYC to Image of the Book Laureate award. She is represented by Partnership Editions and shows regularly in Solo and group exhibitions. Josephine has lectured in the arts and is Print Co-ordinator at AUP.
