Jonas Wolff (born 1992) is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist from Germany.
In his work, he combines the digital with the analogue, the old with the new, to create portals that lead into new worlds. He uses techniques like woodblock printing, etching and oil painting as well as 3D print, digital painting or 3D software. His motifs are usually in-between abstract and figurative: etchings of textures from Age of Empires, cryptic, creature-like figures and ornaments on 3D printed vases or paintings. He draws inspiration from ancient myths, medieval folklore as well as video games and science fiction. He usually works intuitively and experimentally, using randomness as a big factor, letting motifs, compositions and meaning often reveal themselves during the process.
In an age where everything tends to be measured, priced, or turned into information, he wants these portals to open onto what resists that – something ineffable, mystical, cryptic – and let that glimpse open up new realities, less alienated from the world.
