Jacquie Winter is an artist whose practice explores identity, shaped by her transnational background. Working primarily in printmaking, she is drawn to processes of layering, imprint and repetition, mirroring her exploration of identity as something formed, obscured and ongoing.
Winter's recent series of prints, Seen, Not Seen, created through blind embossing, reflects the paradox of visibility within the hospital system: being essential to systems of care while feeling unseen and carrying the weight of emotional labour. Through photopolymer monotype and aquatint processes, her work explores accumulation and disruption, the noise of labels, expectations and pressures that fragment a sense of self and resilience, and the effort to remain grounded and individually defined within this framework.
Winter graduated from Goldsmiths (BA Fine Art, 2002) and sustained her art practice for several years before a period of pause shaped by family life and professional career. Her return to practice marks a continuation rather than a beginning: a re-engagement with a creative space for reflection and reconnection with her artistic self. Experiences within the NHS and private therapeutic settings, alongside her roles as a mother and partner, continue to shape her work, which explores identity as continually unfolding and being redefined.
