I work with painting, printmaking and sculpture, informed by sound and landscape. I explore ideas surrounding the hierarchy of the senses within my practice, interested in encounters between body and place; in how we navigate, physically, imaginatively and intuitively.
My work draws on ecological themes. I frequently document sites using sound and, through a listening and response process, create drawings that function as a graphic score or rhythmic abstraction of place.
Attentive listening is seen as an act of care. Resulting in a gestural outcome, a ‘listening drawing’ practice reflects on physical change, perceived or otherwise, that takes place in the body as a consequence of sound and vibration. In a noisy world, this practice is a quiet action in search of connection, seeking to actively ‘tune in’. It is understood as a way to build a relational practice between interior and exterior, human - non-human, self and other.
