Whether it be through the encroachment on natural landscape by manmade developments or the subsequent creation of myth in response to nature, subjects can range from abandoned buildings, folklore and legend to mundane objects that haunt our daily lives.
A graduate of Reading University, David has worked as teacher, designer, photographer and artist for many years. Solo and group shows in both the UK and Japan have explored environmental issues, place and legend.
The present submission addresses domestic single use plastic consumption. Blocks of ice are shaped by previously discarded plastic containers; in each block rests a flower, fruit, twig or berry which, when the ice returns to water, will begin to rot away - the single use plastic that formed these temporary homes will probably find its way into landfill, adding to the estimated 4.9 billion metric tons of plastic already beneath our feet - ‘what a piece of work is a man’.
