Damien Borowik
Damien Borowik is a French artist based in London whose practice is centred on the design and development of drawing machines and machine-generated drawings. Combining mechanical systems, electronics, programming, and traditional drawing instruments, he creates bespoke tools that transform movement, code, and physical processes into unique visual works. His practice explores the potential of technology as a medium for drawing, investigating how systems and algorithms can expand the possibilities of mark-making while retaining a strong connection to the physical act of drawing.
Working at the intersection of drawing, engineering, and computational art, Borowik develops custom machines that use pens, brushes, and other analogue materials to produce intricate compositions and gestural marks. Through these works, he examines questions of process, materiality, and control, embracing precision and unpredictability as complementary forces within artistic production.
Borowik holds a BA in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins and an MA in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. His work has been exhibited internationally and he has undertaken projects with organisations including Christian Dior Couture, Samsung Electronics, Southbank Centre, Tate Modern, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Several of his works are held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
