Wang Boyuan’s work explores imagination, absurdity, and personal experience through the creation of imaginary beings and environments. Drawing on symbols, metaphor, and imagination, he combines fragments from nature, memory and language to construct imaginary worlds that reflect on identity, emotion, and the complexities of human experience.
His recent monotypes take inspiration from natural forms. By hybridising elements from different organisms, he creates ambiguous creatures that exist between the familiar and the unknown. Through these works, Boyuan explores transformation, interpretation, and the imaginative possibilities found within biological structures. The prints also embrace the unpredictable qualities of monotype printmaking, incorporating watermarks and chance effects unique to this water-based process.
Boyuan graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2022 with an MA in Fine Art Printmaking. He has exhibited internationally in China, the UK, and India. His work is held in private and public collections, including the China Printmaking Museum and Odunpazarı Modern Museum in Türkiye.
