Anna Hutton (born in Edinburgh in 1972) lives and works in rural Norfolk. She makes monochrome drawings and prints that move between representation and abstraction and offer a quiet response to nature. Working in series, she repeatedly visits the same views, tracing patterns of transience within the landscape and herself. Through her manipulation of materials, Hutton considers nature’s constant process of loss and renewal and the increasing vulnerability of our environment. The series 'Ash' of ghost photogravure prints on thin Japanese paper record notable trees that have died from ash dieback disease. Her monotypes 'Scrubland' continue to explore the dark forms of the thorny scrub that are her subjects in her charcoal and ink drawings.
Dropping out of Gray’s School of Art Aberdeen (1992), Hutton studied MA History of Art at Edinburgh University (1997), and MA Museology at Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Norwich (1998).
She has exhibited in group exhibitions including: No Place Art | Edition Two: Materiality, The Handbag Factory London and Sir John Hurt Award, Holt Art Projects Norfolk (2026); Visual Arts Scotland Biennial, Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh (2025); Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition and Derwent Art Prize (2024); and Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2023.
