Artists Statement Anita Geaney 2026
Anita Geaney was born into a London Irish family and her frequent visits back to Ireland in her youth fostered a love of this country and of nature. She moved to Cork in 1999. Anita is a painter and printmaker and has been a member of Cork Printmakers Studio since 2017.
Working in mostly stone lithography print, her main source of inspiration is found in green nature filled spaces. Her practice reflects the joy and energy found in the natural world. It focuses the viewer's attention on the beauty whilst also hoping to bring awareness to the need to care and respect our environment. Both her painting and printmaking practices start from observational drawings. She combines free flowing lines and shapes made by organic forms with contrasting man made lines of fences, walls etc. The work combines realism and abstraction, imagination and memory. It consists of energetic layering of colour and line creating vibrant, dynamic images.
