Amelia Frank
Amelia Akiko Frank is an artist and writer based between London and New York. Rooted in the language of drawing, her practice unpacks how history, power, and national mythologies are symbolically constructed and aesthetically maintained. Positioning metal sculpture, dissected language, spatial intervention, and iterative printmaking processes alongside works on paper as forms of expanded mark-making, she examines the relationship between aesthetics and politics: repetition, erasure, and negative space allow formal relationships to emerge between disparate symbolic systems, while beauty, metaphor, and absence become frameworks for interfacing with contentious and contingent pasts.
Amelia holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, where she was awarded the yearlong Almacantar Studio Award, and BAs in Visual Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities from the University of Chicago, where she was awarded the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts. She has exhibited in London, New York, Chicago, and Bangkok, and been in residence at the Lower East Side Printshop (NY), Ragdale (IL), La Wayaka Current (Chile), and New York Academy (NY). She is a Junior Fellow on the MFA program at Goldsmiths.
