She works from a personal archive, pictures that feel like memories even when she is uncertain they are hers. Monotype, lithography and intaglio processes allow her to translate the photograph into something twice removed, a distance she treats not as a problem to resolve but as the condition that makes excavation possible. The pressure of the press, the residue left behind, all become part of the image's meaning. She is not trying to reconstruct a coherent past but to work with its instability, acknowledging the gaps and distortions.
Having grown up between inherited identities she never chose, Alexandra treats this condition of mis-belonging as structural to the work. Her figures are not illustrations of trauma but presences, uncanny and familiar at once, that meet the viewer with tenderness even when the subject is loss.
