Adrian Holmes (born 1982) is a printmaker whose practice is rooted in the tradition of mokuhanga and informed by the creative fredom of Sōsaku Hanga. His prints embrace looseness and abstraction, shaped by the expressive and spontaneous nature of mark-making and layering. His work centres around botanical themes often exploring abstract perspectives and viewpoints inspired by his ramblings in Cornwall.
After graduating from the University of Plymouth with a BA in Visual Arts in 2005, Holmes lived and worked in Japan, where he began his study of mokuhanga. Largely self-taught through years of dedicated practice and experimentation, his understanding has been nurtured through continued study in Japan under master woodblock carver Asaka Motoharu and baren maker and printmaker Hidehiko Goto. He divides his time between Cornwall and Japan.
