Thérèse Cooper's work contemplates individuality in a mass produced society.
By combining an etched, scratched, cut or screen printed image with hand drawn or inked elements she plays with the desire to be different and a longing to belong. All prompted by Margaret Mead's assertion that, We are all absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.
Cooper's most recent work concerning vessels follows from the past three years preoccupation with clothing the final piece of which series is the first submission to this fair.
Cooper spent six years at Art schools during the 1960s and in 1984 graduated from the University of Essex with a BA (hons) in English and American Literature.
She has since worked as an award winning cartoonist, illustrator, animator and printmaker. Her work has featured in newspapers, magazines and books including The Guardian, The Independent, and the Times,as well as Prospect, New Statesman and World of Interiors. and G.Q. A cartoon is held in the V&A .
Her films won prizes at festivals in Europe and North America and her prints have shown in galleries Including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and The Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries.
