Charlotte Brown x J. Yuen Ling Chiu is a new collaborative partnership in print.
Charlotte Brown utilises printmaking – etching and stone lithography, cast lead sculpture and hand embroidered textiles, to explore the weight and worth of family relationships through objects. She employs traditional techniques which are often laborious and painstaking in their execution to explore themes of familial inheritance and relationships, invested objects and heirlooms, and Freudian psychologies.
She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2012 and recently completed an MA in Academic Practice at UAL researching studios as sites of mess.
J. Yuen Ling Chiu makes prints that explore the architecture and pattern of memory, with especial attention to relationships between urban landscapes, migration, and empire.
Her studio practice often shifts between themes, underpinned by a formal exploration of lower toxicity, more sustainable printmaking methods and materials. Trained in lithography, relief printing, screenprinting, intaglio and digital media, Chiu’s multi-disciplinary print practice is based in her Woolwich studio.
Chiu graduated with an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2007 and is a member of The London Group, Thames-side Print Studio, East London Printmakers and Greenwich Printmakers.
