Paula Pink’s work explores the hidden vitality of nature, and interdependence of living systems. Working with organic materials, light, electricity, and silver gelatin, she creates cameraless images where plants and fungi act directly upon photographic surface – nature’s own etching plate. Her process engages contemporary research about plant intelligence: drawing energy from light, and existing in conversation with its surroundings, organic matter is never still – it is a living process in motion, adapting, responding, participating in dynamic networks of exchange. This is activity imprinted – not a picture of nature’s vitality, but a trace of it. Following her award-winning series Back Down to Earth, Pink’s recent series Enchanting Nature is hand-printed in platinum and palladium – metals of stellar origin that bring geological and ecological time into dialogue, inviting viewers to encounter nature as living presence: realms of mystery, relationship, and becoming. Originally from Scotland, Pink trained and worked as a graphic designer in London and holds a BSc in Liberal Arts from The New School, NYC. Her work has appeared in national and international exhibitions and is held in private collections worldwide.
