Rosalind Whitman’s works are largely created from imagination –and are often inspired by literature, and mythology. Whitman’s specialism is intaglio printmaking - but she has recently expanded her practice to include relief sculpture.
The six works submitted here include themes concerning global migration throughout the ages (1 and 2), and etchings inspired by my research into early alchemical imagery and practices - (with number 4: Essential Texts - referencing a connection between medieval alchemical experimentation and the discovery of early etching techniques.
Whitman studied Printmaking at the Slade School, in London. In 2017 she gained her Doctoral Degree by Practice at the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts.
As an active member of the Printmaker’s Council and of East London Printmakers, for a number of years, she has participated in mixed shows in London, across the UK and abroad – in Europe, Australia, the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.
Whitman’s solo show, Transformations - in which her images paid homage to the alchemical imagination - was held at the Highgate Gallery, Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution, London, 2023.
