Katherine is a printmaker based in Sussex, UK. Working primarily with monotype, she creates figurative works that centre on women and pairs of figures caught in quiet, in-between moments. She focuses on the emotional weight of everyday gestures and the unguarded states where intimacy, vulnerability and uncertainty sit closely together. More recently, her work has been shaped by the shift that comes with navigating ageing, feeling less visible, and existing between past and future versions of herself. She is interested in the mixture of grief, nostalgia and confusion that runs through these transitions, and in how past relationships and attachments continue to influence the present.
Born in 1984, Katherine studied at UAL Camberwell, completing an Art Foundation year, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Works on Paper. This background in materials and surface informs her practice and contributes to her interest in paper, cotton and ink as physical materials.
Printmaking is central to Katherine's work. Monotype allows her to work intuitively, balancing control with chance. She embraces the unpredictability of the process, which gives her work its unusual markings, layered surfaces and blurred textures.
