David W. J. Lloyd is a digital montage artist whose practice explores the intersection of Welsh mythology and the ghosts of historical photography. Rooted in the landscapes of the Mabinogion, the work reimagines its mythological figures through a contemporary, darkly domestic lens, drawing them into dialogue with the Otherworld of Annwn. Central to the artist's process is a personal archive of antique CDV portraits and Victorian postcards. These historical fragments are digitally deconstructed and layered with modern photography to create a new, imagined reality — a series bridging traditional storytelling with contemporary technique. By recontextualising these vintage subjects within Annwn, David creates a visual dialogue between the stillness of the past and the vibrancy of living myth. Specifically created for the medium of print, the work is produced as limited edition giclée prints — a process essential to the practice, as its high-fidelity ink-on-paper quality captures the intricate textures of the original nineteenth-century source material. The artist's work has twice been selected for exhibition at Y Lle Celf at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, inviting viewers to step through a portal into a haunting, ethereal world where history, photographic memory, and legend are perpetually blurred.
