Sam Joseph (b. Leeds) is a UK-based auteur filmmaker, and visual artist whose interdisciplinary practice examines gendered power structures, systemic inequality, and the lived realities of violence against women. Working across film, expanded print , and spatial narratives, her work reclaims representations of women through visually rigorous explorations of autonomy, resilience, and feminist theory. Central to Joseph’s practice is the integration of her printmaking within the cinematic language of her films, where layered imagery, materiality, and spatial composition construct emotionally charged visual environments. As the auteur of her projects, she defines every visual element, from print and set design to aesthetic direction maintaining a singular and politically engaged vision. Her award-winning debut short film, (IN)VISIBLE, has screened internationally at 27 film festivals focused on human rights, and women-led storytelling. Joseph’s work has been exhibited internationally and throughout the UK, including at Bankside, Small but Mighty, Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and the Graduate Art Show for two consecutive years and returns this year as a guest judge. Project Fallen is showcasing at the Aesthetica Art Prize in York. Joseph holds an MA in both Print and Interior Design from the Royal College of Art, where she is currently undertaking a PhD.
