Sharon Baker (UK) is a Birmingham-based printmaker creating atmospheric prints evoking emotions and moods. Working with photoetching, monoprint and, more recently, photogravure, Baker is inspired by domestic, every-day, commonplace scenes and draws on nostalgia, memory, and ideas around class and culture, to create her prints. Baker’s work is eclectic and she produces work in series which have contrasting styles depending on her subject matter and processes. One strand is routed in Nineteenth Century photographic Pictorialism in the creation of grainy, monochrome, photo-based prints where her imagery relies on a controlled tonality to create their unique atmosphere. Baker’s prints have been shown in exhibitions in Europe and the UK including in the House of Commons. Winner of the Westmorland Landscape Prize (2019). Awarded a printmaking residency in Germany by the Coventry-Dresden Arts Exchange (2022). Recent exhibitions include International Original Print Exhibition (2025), ING Discerning Eye (2025) Leamington Spa Open (2026) RBSA Portrait Prize (2026) and The Derby Print Open (2026) winning the Intaglio Printmakers Award.
