Ewan Mungo White primarily makes figurative oil paintings on either canvas or wood. His work is rooted in observation and drawing, filtered through memory and imagination. His work is his deeply felt response to everyday moments of beauty that have stayed with him conveyed through sensual application of paint. He enjoys the attempt to recover a moment lost in time, recreating it and giving it space to become something new. He is inspired by day-to-day life and wants to depict normality and the beauty of normal people doing normal things. He is interested in human relationships and connection and the drama that arises from arrangements of figures on the stage of a surface. Ewan also maintains a printmaking practice, focusing on monotypes; he finds the immediacy this process to be incredibly creatively freeing and conducive to depictions of intimacy and tenderness. Ewan graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2021, where he was the Painters’ Company Scholar and was supported by a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. For the last year he has been artist in residence with the Florence Trust, with whom he had his debut solo show in April 2026.
