Richard is an intaglio printmaker, based in the north of England. His practice currently explores two subjects.
Firstly, neolithic monuments – standing stones, circles and dolmen tombs – using profiled drypoint plates and blind embossing to evoke the mass of the stones and the elusive cup and ring marks which are unique in the UK to northern Britain.
Secondly, the northern landscape and how this has been transformed by the actions of climate and man. As a recent (and slightly obsessive) wild swimmer, Richard is currently developing a series of etchings depicting favourite pools from the swimmer’s perspective.
