Monotype On Paper (Triptych) Edition of Dimensions (WxH): 147 x 63cm
Eleanor Cowell b.1996, is a London based visual artist. Through creating open, boundless environments, she explores the groundless expanse of digital space through printmaking and printing, and the relationship between the human and mechanical.
The work’s narrative begins with a push and pull, applying and removing, a conversation between the revealed luminous surface and the material. Using a digital colour palette, she contrasts organic, boldily movements to combine physical energy and the flat planes of the surface. The lengthy preparation processes are rituals; devoting time is an opposition to an age of immediate information.
Printmaking’s traditional rolling processes alter the original image inked on the plate as it is printed, the intended work uncontrollably disrupted by the machine. The control is removed from the intended image; the hopes and realities of the digital era, the result a collaboration between human and machine.
