Hynek Martinec is a British and Czech artist based in London whose work reimagines the traditions of European painting through a contemporary lens. His practice explores themes of identity, perception, and the continuing relevance of Old Master painting in the digital age.
Martinec studied at The Cooper Union in New York, Middlesex University in London, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His work has been exhibited widely across Europe and North America and is held in major public and private collections.
Through a dialogue between meticulous craftsmanship and contemporary ideas, Martinec challenges conventional notions of representation, inviting viewers to question how images shape meaning. He lives and works in London, where his internationally recognised practice continues to evolve.
