Chrissie Craig is an artist and printmaker who lives and works in London. She is interested in places whose existence have outlived their function, but whose narratives continue to resonate through traces and across time – derelict industrial buildings, abandoned swimming pools, ruined landscapes. Her prints frequently start with an analogue photograph, whose slightly unfocused character has the effect of relocating the image into a dreamlike past, slowing down the viewer and inviting them to contemplate notions of duration and the transience of memory.
At a time when war has returned to Europe, recent work has been made in response to walking the forest site of a medieval gunpowder factory. In varying states of decay, the buildings exhibit a strange and almost mystical beauty despite the jeopardy and violence of their purpose. 'Risk of Enchantment' embodies the choice between Good and Evil amid the uncertainties posed by a scene influenced by reflections and shadow.
Chrissie trained at Camberwell College of Arts (MA Printmaking) and has exhibited widely, including at the RA Summer Exhibition, Saatchi Gallery, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, Menier Gallery, Wells Art Contemporary and Espacio.
