Lana de Jager work investigates women’s mental health, femaleness, and the consequences of cultural pressures through interruptions in scale—working both large and small to interrupt people’s viewing, enabling them to discover new perspectives within familiar imagery. The style of work is figurative, realist and sometimes surrealist. She often examines how scale affects the impact of messages, usually of personal, social and cultural issues.
De Jager transfers drawings to polymer etching plates for traditional intaglio print making, always reaching for technically improved and less-toxic processes.
These prints are from her most recent body of work, Second Spring. They are part of a larger conversation around menopause, due for a solo exhibition in August 2026 in Melbourne (Australia).
She holds a BA Honours Degree in Advertising and Visual Communication from Potchefstroom University in South Africa (1994) and after over two decades in graphic design across South Africa, the UK, and Australia, transitioned to a full-time fine art career in 2016.
Since then Lana de Jager has shown her work in over 50 gallery exhibitions, including delivering 14 solo exhibitions. Her work is held in private and public collections, including the State Library (VIC, Australia) and Charles Sturt University (NSW, Australia).
