Robert Powell is an Edinburgh based artist whose multi-disciplinary practice focuses on printmaking, but includes sculpture, installation, video and text. A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh, Powell has exhibited widely in the UK, as well as in Europe, North America and the Far East. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the John Watson Award, the Royal Scottish Academy Benno Schotz Award and the Society of Scottish Artists Engramme Printmaking Exchange Prize.
Last year, his exhibition ‘Hall of Hours’ at Edinburgh Printmakers featured a five-meter wide and five-meter high clock that was built out of interlocking prints. Instead of showing clock time, this clock told human time, and featured twelve moving dials, a plethora of etched copper (swinging) pendulums, twenty five etched copper plates and audio effects.
He currently is etching technician at Edinburgh Printmakers, and runs classes in the process.
