Efstratia Machairidi’s artistic practice explores the intersections of trace, memory, nature, and structure, both literally and allegorically. Through the expressive possibilities of line and gesture, she constructs intricate worlds of flora and architectural fragments that evoke personal recollection and collective memory. Her works draw equally from the lived and imagined landscapes of her childhood and from the layered mythologies embedded within everyday urban environments. Natural terrains and the remains of once-inhabited structures are transformed into enduring symbols that resist the passage of time, offering reflections on absence, permanence, and remembrance.
Her latest series of woodcuts pays homage to the landscapes of her homeland, retracing childhood memories across the islands of the Aegean and the city of Athens. Combining the precision of printmaking with a deeply poetic visual language, her compositions reveal the fragile relationship between the natural world and human intervention.
Machairidi graduated from Athens School of Fine Arts in 2019(A’ Printmaking studio). She also holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an MSc in Structural Steel Design and Business Management from Imperial College London. She has presented five solo exhibitions, participated in numerous international group exhibitions, and her works are held in private collections.
