Yasmeen Khan is an Edinburgh-based printmaker, illustrator and writer. Her practice has focused on printmaking since first taking a drypoint class at Morley College in London in 2010. In 2016, she graduated with distinction from Falmouth University’s MA in Illustration (Authorial Practice), on which she wrote and illustrated a book of haunting short stories.
In 2017, Khan moved to Edinburgh to take up an Artist in Residence position at Edinburgh College of Art, and since 2019 she has been a studio member of Edinburgh Printmakers, regularly making and showing work in Scotland and beyond.
She continues to develop her printmaking practice, using mainly monotype, etching and aquatint, drypoint and mezzotint. These printmaking techniques allow her to produce ambiguous, dreamlike images that often rely on texture and colour for impact, prioritising the evocation of atmosphere and emotion. Her work is primarily about abstraction and haunting, constructing imagined landscapes where stories and ghosts can reside.
