Julie Ann Haines’ work captures fleeting, solitary moments in the urban spaces close to where she works and lives.
Working across multi plate colour etching, lithography and monotype, she focuses on singular motifs to depict starkly illuminated and unpeopled views that reflect the stuff of everyday living.
Her practice contemplates quiet moments in the private spaces of others and explores ideas of presence and absence, memory and identity, the transient and imperfect nature of existence. She is asking questions about the structures we build, the objects we collect and the traces we leave behind.
Haines graduated from Norwich School of Art 1989 with a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting. She joined the Graphic Studio Dublin in 2013 and awards include Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award 2024 and Royal Hibernian Academy Print Prize 2025.
Her work has been exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Ulster Academy and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2022/25. Other exhibitions include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022/25/26, National Gallery of Ireland, Silent City, 2024, IOPE, Bankside Gallery London 2022.
Her work is in the collection of Arts Council N. Ireland, British Library, National Gallery of Ireland, National Library Ireland and Office of Public Works.
