Jo McChesney is a printmaker based in Leicestershire. She graduated from Bath Academy of Art in 1985, specialising in illustration, hand made paper and print. She later travelled to Kyoto Japan to study woodblock printmaking which became the main focus of her work.
She also incorporates monoprint into her practice, the process being a contrast to the measured and controlled process of carving into the wood. The spontaneous characteristic of monoprint allows an element of randomness in her mark making.
The natural world is the source of inspiration for her prints. Trees weather and water are a recurrent theme in her work, from the changing light of dense woodland, to ripples on water and moving seed drift.
Her latest series of monoprints is based on observations of a single tree through seasonal and time change.
