Amy Wiggin’s work explores ideas of womanhood through the diaristic use of characters, she uses colour and often humour, to draw viewers into a collaborative dance with her protagonists and the fantastical worlds she creates.
Primarily rooted in printmaking, her art practice is often narratively based. Using raw printmaking techniques including monotype and lithography layered with direct drawing and paint to express often highly emotionally charged scenes.
She seeks to ask questions not only of society but of ourselves. How do we see ourselves within these structures, and are they real? By creating other worlds for us to inhabit she questions the systems, both real and imagined, that we see ourselves within.
Her recent monotypes serve as a reflection on humanity in conversation with nature, which has been a profound healing force for her over the past few months.
Wiggin studied at The Glasgow school of Art, London College of Fashion and read English and History of Art at Leeds University. She has exhibited throughout the UK and abroad, including The RA Summer exhibition, Maza Art in Madrid and London, Woolwich contemporary print fair, and The Other Art Fair.
