Asha Vaidyanath’s interdisciplinary practice moves across hand weaving, photography, printmaking, drawing, and sound. Her background and training in engineering, literature and music is central to her exploration of spaces that exist within systems: the gaps and pauses where something unexpected can emerge.
She is drawn to what happens when structures begin to loosen. A woven thread, a printed mark, a photograph, a drawn line, or a sound -each process has its own rhythm and constraint before freedom is negotiated with the materials. Asha's studio then becomes an active site of experimentation. Through making, she navigates the contradictions that exist within and around her: to resist or to conform, to hold on or let go, to follow a system or disrupt it.
Asha is interested is seeing when order begins to dissolve and a new language starts to form. A language without words where rhythm, material, and process become a way of thinking.
