Sonia Gavazza’s practice examines the intersection of social dynamics, interiority, and personal identity. Through a complex texture of signs, human forms manifest the inherent vulnerability and ephemerality of existence. Within a gravity-free, intimate space, individuals cling to small symbols and fragments of reality to remain anchored to their center. The resulting commentary reflects the daily, individual, and collective search for stability in a constantly shifting environment. Gavazza’s recent artworks focus on a spiritual dimension. Symbolic figures, idols, and mythological creatures from diverse cultures evoke that realm of invisible feeling which has always driven human beings to create symbols and rituals through imagery—mechanisms that are truly collective and transformative, generating value and meaning for existence, relationships, actions, objects, places. These artworks celebrate the sacredness of the everyday and the interconnectedness of beings throughout history. Gavazza graduated with honors in 2022 from the two-year specialized program in Fine Art Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. She has exhibited widely since 2013 in a number of independent and collective exhibitions. Highlights include, the International Biennial of Engraving, Aquiterme (Italy), 2026; the Graphic Art Biennial of Szekerland, Sfantugheorghe (Romania), 2026; the 9th International Triennial of Graphic Arts, Sofia (Bulgaria), 2023.
