Macarena Pozo Horcas | las flechas
Etching
Edition of 35
Dimensions (WxH): 50 x 40cm
Macarena Pozo (Córdoba, Spain) has devoted many years to working almost exclusively in the technique of mezzotint.
In NO DOLOR / No Pain, she presents a series born from a deep sense of unease at humanity’s passivity, lack of empathy, and failure to respond to war, abuse, and other tragedies.
From the white of the paper to the deepest velvety black, her images speak of our ability to look the other way. Nothing seems to move us; we have learned to live alongside the unbearable without allowing it to disturb our state of stillness.
Prick me, I do not bleed.
Press harder, I feel nothing.
Attack me, I do not defend myself.
Chase me, I do not run away.
My figures do not suffer.
They do not bleed.
They do not feel.
They simply exist.
Like us.
Macarena Pozo studied Fine Arts, specialising in Printmaking, in Seville. Alongside her artistic practice, she has dedicated much of her career to teaching and, for the past six years, has directed a printmaking studio in Málaga with more than forty years of history. She has exhibited widely in Andalusia, receiving several awards and distinctions, including recognition from Dcoop and the Ateneo de Málaga.
In 2019, she was the sole Spanish representative at the 5th International Mezzotint Festival in Yekaterinburg (Russia), where her work entered the collection of the city's Museum of Fine Arts.
