My printmaking practice is based on found, discarded objects and the marks and surfaces on urban buildings, highlighting the way that they are reshaped by the effects of the environment and the people who used them. In these etched works, eroded books become templates for landscapes, the prints explore how these objects develop new narratives and meanings through the printmaking process, prolonging the fiction held in the pages. They continue the story which explores the relationship between the impact of people and how the landscape itself adapts to the demanding changes that we make to it.
My work is experimental and using these starting points, I incorporate a range of printmaking techniques and processes into my work allowing the objects and places to drive the process. Frequently, due to the nature of the source materials and the experimental approach, each piece is unique or part of a very small varied edition.
These works are framed, but increasingly they are developing a 3 dimensional aspect to the printmaking, which can be seen emerging in ‘Contours 2’ taking it beyond the frame
