About
Ashleigh Thompson is an artist and printmaker based in London. She studied at Hampstead Fine Arts College and City & Guilds of London Art school, gaining a BA Hons in Fine Art: Painting. Thompson was an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter- Printmakers for two years after winning the Gwen May Recent Graduate Award in 2017 and Winner of the Intaglio Printmaker Award at RE Originals 2019. Following a recent return to her craft after an extended period of hibernation, Thompson’s latest artworks are able to simultaneously exist on a smaller scale while encompassing much larger, universal ideas and ideals. Combining the artist’s longstanding exploration of grainy, natural surfaces and melancholic tones with a renewed interest in representational subject matter, these artworks speak to concerns that exist on parallel micro and macro planes. Their ghostly, monochromatic colouring suggests a suspension in time and place, a printed purgatory within which the viewer can immerse themselves and indulge in self-reflection.
