Andrea Abbatangelo works across printmaking, installation and computational image-making, tracing how perception forms in non-human and more-than-human worlds.
His practice moves in a closed loop between the plate and the machine. Drypoints and antique microscope slides become the source material for data-based models he builds himself; those images then return to the copper as new prints. Bees and pollinator cognition run throughout, held between Victorian observation and speculative technology.
In 2025 Abbatangelo was selected for Alias × Serpentine Future Art Ecosystems, training his own generative models from his drypoints and analog sources. Serpentine chose one of the resulting images to represent the selected cohort. The submitted work returns that imagery to printmaking through drypoint and photo-etching.
He holds an MA Fine Art: Digital with Distinction from Central Saint Martins, UAL (2023), supported by a UAL Postgraduate Scholarship.
His work has been shown at MOCAD Detroit, Documenta 13, Manifesta 11 and 12, the 57th Venice Biennale Research Pavilion, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2022, 2023, 2024), where he exhibited New Observations on the History of Bees.
