John Utting’s images engage with the figure, event and place. Worked from a collection of materials from numerous sources gathered out of interest and necessity. The digital pieces submitted are a synthesis of a few of them.
Utting has always made prints, prompted by their unlimited formal potential. Digital languages are also those of printmaking. His evolve from direct observation, drawing and taking photographs with an iPad. The titles reflect concerns at the time of their making. Utting considers myriad political and social missteps to be his nemeses.
John Utting graduated from the Slade in 1974 with a HDFA in printmaking.
