James Randell (b. 1992, London) is an artist printmaker and art educator. He is interested in non-linear narrative, and in how chance, erasure and reappropriation can give rise to new stories or shed light on old ones. He collects discarded materials from the street and from charity shop bookshelves, churning through them in search of characters, symbols and structures. Through this process he attempts to warp objects and information, creating eerie collisions between disparate temporal registers. His current research looks at London, tensions in British history and landscape traditions, printmakers’ craft, and the aesthetics of English folk art and popular pastimes. In the studio he moves between print, assemblage, text and performance.
